03/29/2010 – Asian Networking: Doing Business w/ China

At the end of March Hills Learning hosted an event called “Doing Business with China,” at the Hill NYC. The event was organized to mainly facilitate the dialog about the current trends and concerns facing businesses doing business with China.

The guest speaker, Savio Chan, is the CEO of US/China Partners. His speech included commentary on many Fortune 500 companies he had worked with previously to enter the Chinese market. He also provided his analysis of the current situation with Google, and best practices for going building strategic relationships between US and Chinese companies going forward.

Attendance: 60 people

Ponyo Day at Kinokuniya was held to celebrate the release by Disney of the new Animation, “Ponyo”, to the U.S. Market. Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film “Ponyo” topped the box office the day of its release, and the more well known “Spirited Away” is one of the highest grossing animated films ever.

At the event was a local radio station, Samurai Beat Radio, along with the main speaker Roland Kelts who had spent some time with Hayao Miyazaki on his travels throughout the United States. Hills Learning held a raffle for free language lessons, along with running the welcome booth and teaching language to interested patrons.

02/18/2010 – Asian Networking Event

The event was held on the top floor of a local bar located in downtown Manhattan. Organizations such as the NAAAP brought members for a night of networking and language and cultural exchange.

Various news agencies, such as the Daily Sun and Chopsticks, were also present at the event.

Attendance: 50 people

02/9/2010 – Chinese and Dumplings

Located in a remote but delicious dumpling house in Chinatown, Hills Learning offered a basic Chinese language lesson along with a dinner of dumplings. The basics of both the Chinese culture and language were taught while students were able to enjoy homemade dumplings.

There are many different kinds of trips you can take to Japan. Hills Learning, a language school in New York City, and Kintetsu International, a travel company specializing in tours of Japan, created an event to show potential customers how to create the trip of a lifetime.

At the event was a free orientation on Japan. It included information about famous places to visit in Japan, the best tour packages, safety, and health tips. Then after a break of relaxing and eating Japanese sweets, visitors were treated to Japanese 101 where they learned travel vocabulary and introductory phrases.

Learn about Sake and get a Japanese lesson in the process! Hills Learning, a language school next to Grand Central, teamed with the sake experts at UrbanSake.com to offer a fun, one hour lesson in Sake Tasting and Japanese Language.

Interested patrons were able to enjoy 3 different sakes, as well as have various finger foods. By the end of the event participants were ordering sake in Japanese.

Hills Learning and Aspire Communications put on theĀ  Japanese Christmas Show, a day of entertainment, culture, animation, and education!

The event featured a series of fun cultural activities for both children and adults. Reni, a talented and popular Japanese singer, gave performances with her highly acclaimed dancers, and play exciting games with audience participants.

Hills Learning gave basic Japanese language and culture lessons using interactive and musical activities that inspire learning.

Prizes and raffles were also included in the show.

To celebrate the release of this new animation to theaters, Kinokuniya hosted an event with multiple organizations celebrating animation and Eureka. Performing organizations included Samurai Beat Radio and “Meet the Maids”.

Hills Learning, with three teachers, taught some basics in Japanese by using scenes from Eureka 7. Spectators were able to learn the phrase “I like…” in Japanese, while also participating in a fun game geared towards developing language skills.
