Jamie from New England
Bio – Jamie earned her B.A. Dual Major in English and Cinema Studies from Boston’s Northeastern University. She received TEFL certification from EC Boston (formerly The Olin Center) and has taught numerous English courses throughout Boston, China and New York City. Jamie’s work in China included creating curricula to meet the needs of a wide range of students as well as leading discussion sessions to bridge the cultural gap between China and the West. Jamie has an extensive background in writing, travel and the arts and paints from her home studio in Brooklyn.
Personality – Patient, thorough and friendly. Keeps a positive and adaptable approach to her classes.
“Everyone has the right to pursue an education. This may come in the shape of formally enrolling in a university, taking classes that suit ones schedule or exploring interests throughout daily life. My teaching philosophy draws from the practical background of suiting lessons to match each student’s personal goals, interests and learning style. As I continue my own study of Chinese, I am reminded of the challenge and excitement of learning a new language and strive to make my English classes welcoming to all students. I make great efforts to push students toward achieving their goals through an enjoyable study of the English language.”
Amy, World Teacher
Bio - Amy got her master’s degree in English Language Teaching at the University of Limerick in Ireland. Her master’s dissertation focused on the importance of using authentic materials in the ESL classroom. She is TESOL certified and has over five years ESL/EFL teaching experience in countries such as Japan, Kenya, Ireland and on both American coasts. Amy is now is thrilled to be back in her native New York City doing what she loves most: teaching English.
Personality – friendly and compassionate with a quick sense of humor
‘I believe that authentic materials and real language are key to learning a second language well. I like to integrate all language skills (speaking, listening, reading writing and pronunciation) into each of my lessons. The ultimate goal of my course is to help students relax and experience a meaningful connection with English. By combining my holistic style and strong base of knowledge with my ability to be a compassionate and enthusiastic guide I feel I am able to lead learners on a path to English success.’
