Here's a review of some English Schools in New York City. There's quite a variety to choose from, naturally since this review is posted on the Hills Learning website Hills comes first, but there's more information about other schools as well.

Hills Learning:

Description:
Hills Learning is the only Asian language school in New York that also specializes in English/ESL instruction. The school offers classes in English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Spanish, and other languages. All teachers are professionals with at least 3 years teaching experience, and often much more. Hills Learning has classes in general English, business English and test prep.
Classes:
Group classes usually meet once a week for 90 minutes and cost $309 for a set of 8 classes including a free trial class. There is no extra registration or processing fee.
There is also an English Conversation class available at $198 for 10 hours per week.
Class Size:
Class sizes are small with a maximum of 6 students per class.
Location:
380 Lexington Avenue is located at 42nd Street, steps away from Grand Central Terminal, Metro North and subways.

Superb learning environment at an affordable price.
Tuition rates are much more affordable than with comparable organizations in the city and my teacher has been superb.

A great language experience. With Hills Learning you get a very personalized experience. You tell them your goals and what you want to learn and the teachers customize the lessons to fit your needs.

Highly Recommend! I highly recommend Hills Learning Center. The classes are small so you essentially receive private tutoring for less than half the cost of what you pay to take a class with 20-30 students in different programs. Additionally, when I was unable to make a class the teacher was so kind as to arrange with the whole class a different date so I wouldn't miss any instruction.

Berlitz provides language instruction and cultural consultation using the renowned Berlitz Method.
Classes:
Group classes meet twice a week and cost $998 for an 8 ½ week semester.
Private lessons are purchased in a package and cost $2990.

Class sizes are small with a maximum of 4 students per class.
Location:
40 West 51st Street, in the historic Rockefeller Center.

They offer the tools for language learning

For a model of teaching a second language, Berlitz has the process down pat. The key to success is making sure you are willing to put in the time to master the language. They offer the widest language selection you can imagine, although the majority of volume seems to be around Spanish and French and Italian. Their instructors are dedicated and will really work you hard.

I think I could recommend Berlitz for a quick way of learning if you know that you will be traveling to a foreign country and want to be able to say and understand a few things. Berlitz is good at getting you to speak right away. But after a while, the $$ starts adding up, and it's time to move on.

Zoni specializes in intensive English programs and preparation for the TOEFL and IELTS, as well as the GMAT and GRE. There is also the option to take private courses or specialized courses.
Classes:
Intensive group classes meet daily for a total of 20 hours per week and cost $279 per week.
Class Size:
Class sizes are usually between 15 to 25.

One of the best language school in New York I went there to study English six months ago, I have improved my English. It's a very good and affordable esl language school in NYC and the location is great too, close to Macy's:))

Big Business - Not Really Concerned with Teaching English My girlfriend goes here to learn English (she's from Japan). It's a big business, and they don't care much about teaching languages.

New York language center it's a great and cheap school for learning english. Even if you don't have a good level skills in english, you can improve it here. You learn seriously by some games too.

As a language school, I think this school is the best language school because they offer good prices for excellent classes. Also the teachers and the officers are very kind and nice to all of the students.
It is located on 30th street so you can learn English in the middle of Manhattan, NY!!
