Hello everybody, 大家好! Welcome back to our series on Learning Chinese through Funny Movies. I am writing this article on Thanksgiving, 感恩节gǎn ēn jié. Wish your Thanksgiving is filled with blessings, joy and turkeys!

Today we look at the last part of the small talk between Mr. Fan and Qin Fen. You will learn some very useful phrases and expressions in the Chinese language from this scene.
Sentence 4 to Sentence 8
qín fèn ：shuō mǔ yǔ 。 秦 奋： 说 母 语。
fàn xiān shēng ：āi ya, nǐ kàn kan wǒ, zhè gè jīng cháng bù shuō mǔ yǔ yǐ jīng bù xí guàn le 。 范 先 生： 哎呀, 你 看 看 我，这 个 经 常 不 说 母 语 已 经 不 习 惯 了。
jiàn dào nǐ fēi cháng gāo xìng ！ 见 到 你 非 常 高 兴！
qín fèn ：xìng huì ！ 秦 奋： 幸 会！
fàn xiān shēng ：zuò ！ 范 先 生： 坐！
qín fèn ：nín qǐng ！ 秦 奋： 您 请！

Sentence Structure & Explanations
In this last part, Mr. Fan and Qin Fen finished their small talk before they got down to the “innovative invention” business. If you remember in Part 2, Mr. Fan surprised Qin Fen by speaking English after they agreed to speak their mother tongue—Chinese.
Qin Fen now reminds Mr. Fan by emphasizing his “mother tongue”.
Sentence 4: Imperative sentence, Verb+object. (Speak) Mother tongue.
Sentence 5: Ah! (You) Look at me. (eh...)I don't speak our mother tongue often so I am not used to it anymore. Very nice to meet you! 哎呀！This phrase is widely used to express happy surprise, worry, disbelief, and panic. For example: 哎呀！是你呀！āi ya！shì nǐ ya！Ah! It is you! (The speaker is very surprised to meet the person by coincidence.) Notice that 呀 has no tone and should be pronounced light and short. 已经：If this adverb is used in a positive sentence, it means “already”. 我已经长大了。wǒ yǐ jīng zhǎng dà le。I've already grown up. If it is used in a negative sentence, the structure is 已经不。。。了, meaning “not anymore”. 见到你非常高兴！The sentence structure is Verb + Object + adv. Literally it means (to) see you very happy! In English ”very happy” is proposed before the “to do” phrase.
Sentence 6: Nice to meet you! 幸 means happy, pleased or honored, an adjective. 会 means to meet, a verb.
Sentence 7: 坐！Sit! Have a seat! Imperative sentence.
Sentence 8: 您请！You (first) please! After you! Imperative sentence.
